Rights! was published in London by the National Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL) from 1976 to around 1989. Articles in this – the first – issue include MPs voting record on civil liberties, the rise of anti-migrant rhetoric and racism, and how to complain against the police.
The NCCL was founded in 1934 and is the UK’s oldest civil liberties and human rights organisation, working through litigation, lobbying, campaigning, and research. They formally changed their name to Liberty in 1989.
The Commonweal Collection includes around 30 copies of Rights! published between 1976 and 1984. Other materials in the Collection about Human Rights (Tf) can be found on the catalogue here.
A full list of over 1,700 magazines, newsletters, bulletins and journals that are in the Collection can be foundĀ here.
