News from Within was a monthly magazine published in Jerusalem by the Alternative Information Center, a progressive Palestinian-Israeli activist organisation. It provided an analysis of the main trends in Israeli and Palestinian societies, with special attention given to the radical democratic and feminist struggles. It also “challenged the Jewish and Zionist nature of the State of Israel and the authoritarian nature of the Palestinian Authority.”
This 2006 edition includes articles on Operation ‘Summer Rain’, the deterioration of health conditions in the Gaza strip, the Fatah-Hamas discord, the aftermath of the 2006 Lebanon war and the Israeli ‘Separation Wall Project’. Many of the articles still resonate today.
The Commonweal Collection includes around 75 copies of News from Within published between 1987- 2007.
