Human Rights Watch works with those around the world who monitor human rights. Its quarterly newsletter documents the work of national human rights organisations. It updates its readers on developments in the organisation such as new appointments and publications.
In this issue from Fall 1993, the publication commemorates Human Rights Day, celebrated on the 10th December every year. The issue also discusses a new Human Rights Watch report on the dangers of landmines. It calls for landmines to be made illegal under existing customary international humanitarian law. It recommends an international agreement banning the production, stockpiling, transfer and use of landmines. Identifying almost 100 companies and government agencies in 48 countries that have manufactured landmines, it states that governments should provide more funds for humanitarian mine clearance including funding programmes to develop mine clearance technologies, as well as rehabilitation and medical programs.
The Commonweal Collection includes just this one issue of Human Rights Watch, published in 1993. However there are many other periodicals in the Collection about Human Rights (Tf) which can be found on the catalogue here.
